Tendo a internacionalização como um dos seus diferenciais enquanto Instituição de Ensino Superior, a PUCRS oferece em todos os semestres disciplinas ministradas em língua inglesa. Para 2025, são 22 opções de disciplinas, e elas são uma oportunidade de praticar um segundo idioma em sua área de estudo. O inglês também ajuda os/as estudantes a se colocarem melhor no mercado, além de ser uma forma de entender um mercado cada vez mais global.
Nas disciplinas, o inglês é visto como meio de comunicação e não objeto de estudo (o chamado English as a Medium of Instruction – EMI). Isso significa que nas aulas não são abordadas questões gramaticais do idioma e o aluno é avaliado pelo conteúdo trabalhado na disciplina. Muitas delas têm caráter interdisciplinar, podendo ser opção eletiva para alunos de diferentes cursos.
Para a professora Gabriela Wallau, da Coordenadoria de Desenvolvimento Acadêmico, da Pró-Reitoria de Graduação e Educação Continuada (Prograd), as disciplinas em inglês possibilitam o desenvolvimento de competências importantes para o mercado de trabalho.
“As disciplinas em língua inglesa são uma excelente oportunidade para vivenciar um ambiente altamente internacionalizado, sem sair da sala de aula”, comenta.
Os estudantes podem optar por cursar disciplinas do seu próprio currículo (equivalentes às em português), ou então de outros cursos, sejam da sua Escola ou de outras (que contarão como eletivas). Nessas aulas, o inglês é o meio de comunicação oficial entre professores e estudantes, mas o conteúdo é o mesmo que se teria em uma disciplina regular.
“As avaliações não são realizadas com base no nível de proficiência linguística, mas no desenvolvimento da aprendizagem tal como seria na disciplina em português. A PUCRS, seguindo seu compromisso institucional de internacionalização do ensino, vem aumentando e aprimorando o portfólio de disciplinas em língua inglesa, que hoje são ofertadas por todas as Escolas da Universidade”, adiciona Gabriela.
Entre as vantagens de ingressar em uma disciplina em idioma estrangeiro, você também aumenta suas chances de dividir a sala de aula com colegas de outros países. Isso porque muitos alunos internacionais em mobilidade na PUCRS buscam essas disciplinas para seu período de estudos por aqui. Dessa forma, você aprende e se desenvolve ao mesmo tempo em que compartilha vivências com colegas de diferentes culturas.
“As aulas são frequentadas tanto por estrangeiros em Mobilidade Acadêmica quanto por alunos da PUCRS, promovendo uma intensa troca intercultural e desenvolvendo competências necessárias para a atuação no mundo globalizado”, comenta Gabriela.
Além disso, as disciplinas em inglês são um ótimo ensaio para quem pretende estudar no exterior, seja para período de mobilidade acadêmica ou alguma capacitação fora do país. Desta forma, o estudante poderá praticar um segundo idioma e vivenciar trocas interculturais.

Debate on the role of human beings in nature and of every professional and citizen in building an environmentally sustainable world.
First Aid (36188-02)
Theoretical and practical discipline that approaches the study of basic knowledge of first aid, aiming to enable the student to provide assistance in emergencies, stressing the prevention of accidents and aspects related to health.
Personal Development (96336-02)
Stimulus for the development of self-knowledge, through a self-reading process. Knowing himself/herself and think freely by means of a process that is eminently practical. Discussion on the importance of personal development for contemporary professionals as an elementary action in the knowledge construction process.

Introduction to the concepts and elements of digital culture applied to the communications field. Involves the study of the foundations, principles and logics of the scenario that led to the development of digitalization of media, the internet, and the context of network communication.
Data Reporting and Visualization Applied to the Brazilian Context (97150-04)
Theoretical and practical subject aiming to present basic concepts and practices of data reporting and data visualization. Analysis and discussion of Brazilian public data sets and news using data journalism. Basic notions of statistics and sampling. Information access laws. Data analysis using apps.
Advanced To In Contemporary International Relations II (91A40-02)**
Analysis of contributions from contemporary authors of relevance to the area of International Relations. Approaches to contemporary international themes and problems, focusing on Brazil and Latin America. Contemporary case study exercises in light of the theoretical and methodological contributions learned throughout the course.
Creative Writing (12286-02)
Writing exercises, discussions on language and reading of literary texts, in a workshop environment, aiming at intellectual and creative exchange.
Culture And Society In North America (91A41-02)**
Analysis of cultural dimensions of contemporary North American societies and their interfaces with International Relations. Study of the relevance of cultural values, moralities and identity processes in the configuration of local conflicts and international relations. Approaches to contemporary public debates and their intersections with international relations: migration, interethnic relations, violence, interculturality, among others.
History of Brazilian International Relations (91A37-04)*
Historical analysis of the process of international insertion and formulation of the Brazilian Foreign Policy. Historical conditioning and ideologues of Brazilian Foreign Policy. Analysis of the formulation of Brazilian. Foreign Policy in the XIX century: from independence to the Republic. Foreign Policy of the first half of the XX century, with emphasis on the Getulio Vargas governments. Brazilian Foreign Policy during World War I and II. The government of Juscelino Kubitschek and the Pan-American Organization. The beginning of the Independent Foreign Policy.
History of International Relations II (91A35-04)**
This course focusses diverse political, economic and social transformations occurred in the 20th Century. It analyses the 1st and 2nd World Wars in its backgrounds. It study as well the emergence of the Cold War System as well as it highlight its links to the Militaristic Regimes in Latin America, the Decolonization of Africa and Asia, and the growing influence of China.
Human Rights II (92155-02)*
Applicability of Human rights standards to public and private entities. Public policies and Human Rights. The Right to development. Business and Human Rights. Gross and systematic violations. International Security, Strategic Studies And Defense (91A42-04)**
Introductory study of the main currents that make up the field of Strategic Studies, International Security and defense in International Relations. Understanding the social, technical and political dimensions involved in the use of force in international relations. Analysis of historical power distribution patterns and description of regional security contexts. Analysis of the defense policy of the Great Powers, Brazil and South American countries.
Introduction to Literary Studies (91270-02)*
Literature functions. Literary discourse and its particularities. The objects and the disciplines of the literary studies. Literary system: author, work and reader.
Theory of International Relations I (91A38-04)*
Study of International Relations`s theoretical contributions until the inter-paradigmatic debate – Liberalism, Realism and Marxism. Currents stemming from the three paradigms, such as Institutional Liberalism, Neorrealism and Neomarxism (Critical Theory and World System Theory). Analysis of the English and the French Schools. Reading of the Power Transition Theories and the emergence of the International Political Economy.
Reading and Text Production (91201-04)
Syllabus: The course deals with the language in use by contemplating the fundamentals of interlocution: interlocutors, text, context and the construction of meaning in reading and textual production practices. It explores instrumental reading through grammatical review and the application of reading strategies aimed at improve reading comprehension. It also covers textual elements such as cohesion, coherence, intertextuality, informativeness, intentionality, acceptability and situationality.
Global Health (93145-02)**
Discussion of prominent themes regarding global health, featuring distinct national healthcare models. Comprehensive analysis of health burdens and health indicators across various countries and regions. Introduction of pertinent concepts and initiatives for medical students embarking on real-life scenarios, implementing impactful measures for patient care, public policy, and global health research through current topics within different population contexts.
Translational Medicine: From The Bench To The Bedside (93144-02)*
The translational medicine is an innovative branch of medical research that has rapidly transitioned from laboratory research to clinical applications. Its primary objective is to explore solutions for overcoming human diseases. The knowledge of different areas of medicine and biological sciences, from the structure and behavior of molecules, through cell physiology is the forefront of translational medicine aimed at enhancing strategies for disease prevention, detection and treatment. The discipline translational medicine: from the bench to the bedside will provide an immersion in the sphere of experimental research emphasizing its intimate connection with the practice of clinical medicine

Organization, analysis, interpretation of data and study of probabilistic models. Investigation of the relationship between variables. Notions from sampling to infer parameters and the establishment of statistical hypotheses.
