PUCRS promotes Clothing Drive

University will collect warm clothes and blankets in good condition for people in socioeconomic vulnerability

Monday, May 19 | 2025

With the arrival of winter, PUCRS promotes another edition of Winter clothing campaign. The initiative, promoted by Pastoral, with the support of different sectors of the University, invites the entire academic community to donate warm clothes and blankets in good state, in order to help the population in socioeconomic vulnerability. In 2024, due to the flood that hit Rio Grande do Sul, PUCRS launched a special campaign to help the affected families. This year, with the theme “The best way to warm hearts this winter is with your solidarity”, it returns after a break. Items can be donated until August 30th, at the University.

According to data from the Single Registry (CadÚnico), from the federal government, the number of homeless people in Porto Alegre grew by 14,88%, as a result of the climate disaster that struck the state. In April last year, the numbers indicated 4,5 thousand people registered living on the streets. Now, in February 2025, indicate 5,2 thousand people in this condition. More than ever, the gesture of donating represents care, empathy and commitment to collective well-being.
