The initiative, which includes high school students, will open registrations on April 14th
Tuesday, April 08 | 2025The students of Junior Scientific Initiation Program from PUCRS – an initiative that seeks to enable high school students to participate in research projects at the University – were highlighted in academic journals in the area. The Program is one of the initiatives of the Pro-Rectory of Research and Graduate Studies (Propesq) and one of the opportunities offered by the University to those interested in experiencing the environment of scientific production for the first time. Registration for the next edition of IC Junior begins on April 14th.
Arthur Almeida Santos Lisboa was one of the project’s beneficiaries and participated in the 2023 edition. Arthur, who completed high school at the Parobé State Technical School, produced the article “Sleep disorders in adolescents: a critical assessment of the influence of electronic devices – literature review”, supervised by Magda Lahorgue Nunes, a professor at the PUCRS School of Medicine. The research project was published in the Pediatric Residency Journal of the Brazilian Society of Pediatrics.
Teodoro Eilert Trevisan was also one of the participants in the Program, in the 2024 edition, as a volunteer. Teodoro carried out a research project, supervised by Professor Gustavo Inacio de Moraes from the School of Business on “Monetary and Fiscal Policy and Performance of the US Dollar”, with publication in the Curieux Academic Journal (CAJ Journal).
For the coordinator of Scientific Initiation at the Office of the Vice-Rector for Research and Graduate Studies, Laura Utz, the Program is important because it provides many students with their first contact with academic research.
“This experience is essential for students to experience a little of what it is like to be a researcher. I often tell participants in the IC Junior Program that this is an opportunity that everyone should have, even those who do not want to pursue a scientific career.”
For those who are unsure about participating in IC Júnior, Laura guarantees that the lessons will last a lifetime: “the experience of participating in a research project and discovering new things is very enriching”.
To participate in the selection process, the student must be regularly enrolled in high school, have a profile compatible with the planned activities, demonstrate good academic performance, and commit to executing the activity plan approved by the supervising teacher, dedicating 10 hours per week.
