The 3rd Contemporary Youth Symposium will take place from September 2nd to 4th, at PUCRS, presenting as its central theme Care, life and hope. Organized by the PUCRS Youth Observatory/Marist Network, in partnership with different mission fronts of the Network, with Marist Brazil and the Southern Region 3 of the National Conference of Bishops of Brazil (CNBB), the event focuses on the socio-emotional education of adolescents and young people, within the perspective of integral formation. Registration is now open and can be done at link, with promotional values for priority audiences.

The objective of the meeting is to provide an opportunity for interdisciplinary discussion on the contemporary impacts on youth life, focusing on the theme of socio-emotional education. In this way, the Symposium seeks to contribute to qualifying the humanizing support of youth.

According to the coordinator of the PUCRS/Marist Network Youth Observatory, Patrícia Espíndola de Lima Teixeira, the theme of the event was designed to contribute to a comprehensive view of contemporary youth realities.

“It is no secret that social illness has impacted the integrity of each young person. We need to discuss in depth and find joint strategies with the different areas that work with young people. Therefore, the Symposium has an interdisciplinary characteristic, connecting education, health and safety. We have partnerships with recognized institutions and services committed to promoting youth life.”, highlights the Coordinator.

The event will include conferences, round tables, short courses, presentations of works and artistic attractions. The full program is also available at the registration link.

Work Presentation

On the second day of the event, participants will have the opportunity to present scientific papers or reports of experiences with adolescents and/or young people, connected to the theme of the event. To do so, at the time of registration, it is necessary to submit the summary of the oral communication, according to the themes, format and criteria indicated in the regulations (see it on the website).

Abstracts may be submitted until July 6th or until all places are filled. Full information about the papers can be found at page of the event.

Importance of socio-emotional education

From the consistent and responsible perspective of comprehensive education, the Symposium's focus is aligned with a diagnostic, interventionist path committed to transforming the realities that impact young people. The proposal is also based on the invitation made by Pope Francis, in this year in which the Catholic Church celebrates the Jubilee of Hope, for a renewed reflection on the future, in an intergenerational, constructive, cooperative way that promotes a culture of care for young people.

Furthermore, the purpose is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These represent a global appeal and indicate a direction for actions in search of better prospects in the face of current challenges.
