Living in the present and planning for the future is only possible with historical documentation of all the facts of the past. And this happens because there are professionals dedicated exclusively to understanding the evolution of humanity: the historian. Learning about ancient civilizations, the behavior of people from different cultures and how we got here are some of the roles of those who study History. Here at PUCRS, you will develop skills and abilities to produce historical knowledge in all its dimensions, meeting people's needs to understand their trajectory, their memories, their relationship with the past-present and their historical-cultural heritage.
The Bachelor's Degree in History aims to train critical professionals who are committed to truth, ethics and society. Your learning will be built on values and principles that value the human condition, always defending freedom, inclusion, rights and respect for life in all senses. You will leave PUCRS prepared to work in research, consultancy and cultural, artistic and tourist activities, museums, documentation centers and much more.

Being a historian qualifies you to pursue an academic career in the area of research, in addition to working in museums, archives and providing cultural consultancy for artistic productions – a profession increasingly in demand by the market for the protection and dissemination of memory and culture.

Multidisciplinarity is at the core of the Bachelor's Degree in History: approximately 30% of the subjects are shared with other courses in the School of Humanities. Our curriculum is based on the most contemporary concepts in the field, and in addition to theoretical subjects, during the course you will participate in several practical activities. Our professors also have different professional experiences that contribute even more to a broad and complete education.
