    Urgent and emergency situations require immediate attention and pose a risk of serious harm to health or life itself. Cases like these cannot wait and require the use of 24-hour emergency and urgent mental health services.

    Below we highlight situations that require this care:

    1. Intense suicidal ideation at the present time, with prior planning or attempt;
    2. Crises with psychotic symptoms (with or without hallucinations and delusions) and/or with sudden changes in behavior, in which the subject puts himself or others at risk;
    3. Acute anxiety attacks;
    4. Other situations that pose a risk to one's own life and integrity or that of others.

The Psychology Research and Assistance Service (SAPP) was created in 1974 by a group of students linked to the Academic Directory of the School of Psychology who, supervised by the coordinator of the Clinical Psychology discipline, began to assist people referred by the PUCRS Free Legal Assistance Service (Sajug) for psychological monitoring and evaluation. In 1975, the first curricular internship was held at SAPP and, in 1979, the Graduate Program began.

Between 1982 and 1986, the Service underwent a process of resizing, integrating the already existing Psychoanalytic Orientation Psychotherapy, Person-Centered Psychotherapy and the assessment of the Family System. During this period, clinical and community activities were also implemented at the PUCRS Campus – Vila Nossa Senhora de Fátima, currently the PUCRS University Extension Center, located in Vila Cruzeiro, Porto Alegre.

Another expansion of SAPP (1994-2004) occurred with the inclusion of Disciplinary Practices of Psychopathology and Psychodiagnosis; the implementation of care programs for people in adoption situations and with psychosomatic conditions and the feasibility of new intervention projects in the community.

In 2005, the design of the Service's innovation project began, with the implementation of the SAPP/Sajug Program, the integration of the Cognitive-Behavioral line with the internship in Clinical Psychology and the increase in integration between clinical practice and research.

In 2009, to commemorate SAPP's 35th anniversary, the book was published Studying Psychology: an experience in a teaching clinic, organized by Professor Mônica Medeiros Kother Macedo, coordinator of the Service at that time. This work proposed to record and share the diversity of activities and experiences lived in the context of the teaching clinic at a University.

From 2011 onwards, there were periods of expansion of the Service, following the historical evolution of Psychology itself, the opening of the field of activity of the psychologist, in addition to the changes in the pedagogical project of the course aligned with the National Curricular Guidelines. Such expansions, which also take into account the concepts of innovation and integration of the service network, included the consolidation and implementation of different centers/fields of Psychology within SAPP.

Thus, in 2021, the Service has the Practice Center, Clinical Psychology Center (Psychoanalytic, Systemic and Cognitive-behavioral approaches), Career and Work Psychology Center, Social and Institutional Psychology Center and School and Educational Psychology Center.

Over these 47 years, several Symposiums and Internal Conferences have been held and, in 2019, SAPP hosted the Rio Grande do Sul School Services Meeting in 2019.

The PUCRS Psychology Research and Support Service justifies and reaffirms, each year, its ethical and technical commitment to the development of skills related to professional training and as a space for extensionist practice to serve the community.

Welcome to SAPP!
