PUCRS is a community university and, through its identity and mission, assumes the extension as a commitment essential, in conjunction with teaching and research. The PUCRS Institute of Culture develops, encourages and supports cultural and artistic activities with the aim of increasing integration between the University and society. Through its collections and the creation of cultural projects, it seeks to disseminate knowledge and promote art, culture and education.
The Science and Technology Museum, based on the institutional principles of PUCRS, concentrates important university extension actions, with the mission of generating, preserving and disseminating knowledge through its collections and exhibitions, contributing to the development of science, education and culture.
The Pastoral and Solidarity Center, in synergy with the PUCRS University Extension Policy, encourages the strengthening of bonds and the protagonism of students in their relationship with the external community, acting through transversal projects and actions that contribute to the development and comprehensive academic education.
The Ônibus do Bem is a project inspired by Good Bus, created in the USA and innovates by offering people the surprise volunteering. The idea is to break down any type of prejudice that prevents someone from carrying out some voluntary activity, showing that we first need to be willing to contribute and make ourselves available.
The project enables undergraduate and stricto sensu postgraduate students (masters and doctorate), alumni (graduates), professors and collaborators of the University to work voluntarily with the community of the Porto Alegre Metropolitan Region, in areas such as education, culture, health, social assistance and the environment.
Service Learning is a active teaching and learning methodology, which promotes student development through practical application of the knowledge acquired in the classroom.
O Itinerant Museum Program (PROMUSIT) has already received more than 3 million visitors with the completion of more than 250 trips both in the state of Rio Grande do Sul and in seven other states, as well as being present in more than 100 municipalities.
Created in 1980, it offers services in the areas of education, law, health and social assistance and development. The environment offers students practical internships, so that they can have contact with reality.
The Farol Hub Social, led by Tecnopuc, develops extension actions by connecting the University's innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem with companies, civil society organizations and public authorities to act in promoting social development through training and qualification in the area of innovation.

At PUCRS, five PET Groups operate in undergraduate courses in Biology, Computer Science, Literature, Psychology and Industrial Chemistry, developing actions, under the guidance of a tutor professor, which provide students with the opportunity to broaden the range of experiences in their academic and civic education.
PET-Saúde is based on education through work, and is an important tool for strengthening teaching-service-community integration actions, through activities involving teaching, research, university extension and social participation.
